Dogs that have been adopted into loving homes.

COVA- LaGrange, GA Cova’s parents in Naples, FL contacted us because their new baby was very allergic to her. We reached out to Debbie who had been wanting to adopt a second dog from us. She made the 9-hour trip to Naples to pick her up. We were thrilled when her current dog and Cova (6 years old) became fast friends. They have been playing, posing for pictures together and having lots of playtimes.

STETSON now SPENCER- Tampa, FL Stetson came to us along with Lily from a backyard breeder in South Georgia. Used for breeding, he lived outside in a large kennel, typically with a female. Stetson and Lily were fostered separately, but both sadly had Heartworms and had to be treated for them. We also got him UTD on shots, neutered and microchipped, but he stayed in foster care for well over 3 months due to treatments. He came in a matted mess. His foster mom managed a doggy day care so he she was able to see him interact with other dogs and he was very dog friendly, cat and kid friendly. After treatment we found his new dad John a few hours from where he had been fostering. John is a lawyer who usually has 3 sheepdogs but currently has 2. He brought his 2 pups to meet Stetson and they did great together. John adopted Stetson, renamed him Spencer and now they go on big walks, play and go to work with their dad!

Lily- Fairhope, AL Lily also came from the same breeder. Unfortunately, she was given to this breeder from another breeder with a broken leg but was still used to breed for puppies. When she did not provide any litters, she was given to us. She came with severely matted hair. We got her groomed to make her more comfortable. Then she developed an ear hematoma and had an ear infection. While we were hoping to treat the hematoma with meds, she did require surgery. The spay and hematoma surgeries were done at the same time. Sadly, in addition to her broken leg, she also had heartworms. The heartworm treatment took 2 months. She is currently in between treatments (she has back-to-back shots scheduled for the end of February). Throughout all her medical treatments, she was just a lovely, sweet dog, no accidents and just needed to be with people. She lived outside in an outdoor kennel with Stetson with just a little time with people. (More on Stetson soon- he also had heartworms and was owner released to us). Lily was provided downtime after her first big Heartworm treatment, and then transported from Jacksonville, Fl where she was had been fostered. She is now an only dog, with all the attention and love in her new home with mom Carolyn (our previous treasurer for this rescue) in Fairhope, AL. She is now officially Heartworm negative!

Piper – Baldwin, GA Piper came to us from a breeder in South GA who said, she just “laid down” and would not get pregnant. So, she and two other dogs were given to our rescue. Piper grabbed a ride with some friends who had been visiting the area. She was transported up to the North GA mountains. Piper is extremely sweet. She joined another sheepdog at Marjorie and Josephs home. Immediately she required a full shave down and medical attention for her ears. She was spayed and brought up to date on shots. Once we knew there were no compatibility issues, she was adopted. Piper is the smaller dog in the adoption photo. She has also enjoyed some snowy days now.

NEWT Now BLUE Newt, who just turned one, came to us after his owner realized he was too young and just too much for her. Her partner recently passed and she just could not handle his young dog energy herself. Our wonderful friend in rescue, Tiffany brought him to her house, while we got him to the vet for his shots and neuter. She fell in love with him too, but she had her own dogs. So, the next best thing, she talked her sister into adopting him. While Tiffany is building a new home on a large piece of land north of Knoxville, TN, her sister will also be building a home on the same property in the next few years. So, Tiffany will continue to get to see Blue on a regular basis. During the holiday season, Tina (Tiffany’s sister), got to know Blue and connect and finally after a good week, she headed back with Blue to Mustang Ridge, TX. He is enjoying being only a dog, but we know they will all have a big reunion many times in the future during holidays and when the houses are built!

MABEL- Nashville, TN Mabel came to us after an owner said she was picking fights with other dogs. Mabel (a little over 3 years old) was transported from South Georgia to Nashville. She joined Kendall in Nashville, who had just bought her first home with a fence and was ready to add a sheep dog to her life as a young professional adult. Her family also has a sheepdog back in TX. Mabel is thriving and enjoying being an only dog. She has had lots of snow this year to enjoy.

HENLEY now MATILDA- Opelika, AL Our rescue had been working with an owner trying to give up his dog and then suddenly, he went silent. We had a lot of info on the dog, but no medical paperwork. One day we got a call from a lady driving by Target who saw a dog being given away from a truck. She contacted us and we realized it was the same dog we had been working on. We had already had a foster home lined up for her, so this lady helped immediately get her to a vet so we could get her shots done. Then she met up with Tom and Lori from Opelika. They had had three dogs and now were down to two so gladly welcomed the young energy of this 1-year-old dog into their home to keep up with the last dog they got from us a few years ago. Matilda was adopted, after a local spay was completed.

Harley now Hayden- Mexico Beach, FL Hayden was turned into a local shelter (along with another beagle type dog) at Port St. Joe after the owner ended up in going into hospice. We were not even sure she was 100% sheepdog just because her hair was so sparce. She was sweet and small. Kwyn Jenkins and Donny Walker had just put in an application a day before we were notified, so I asked them if they could foster. Well not only did they pick her up, but they also adopted her buddy as well. The shelter told us they had been spayed/neutered, only to find out a few months later when her heat cycle started, that was not true. Both are spayed now and Haydens’ hair has grown back. She looked older when we got her due to her skin, but now we can tell she is younger than expected and may only be a year or two old. Kwyn and Donny are great parents, and both dogs are spoiled and thriving.

YODA and LEIA- Bay St. Louis Yoda and Leia came to us from a Naples, Fl family due to having no time available for the dogs and too small a backyard (about 10 x 10 and mostly concrete). The dogs had become severely obese and our wonderful foster mom Staci made it her mission to get them down to a good weight. He lost about 25 and she lost about 20lbs. They went from barely able to walk outside to becoming dogs that moved, loved outdoors and eventually playing and chasing each other. Leia’s goal in life became chasing and hopefully catching a squirrel (thankfully never successful) and his job was to run after her. Through the slow weight loss progress, we kept looking for the right family, one where they could stay together and thankfully our foster mom was willing to keep them as long as it took to find the right home. And then the miracle happened, almost 8 months after they came into rescue. A couple out of Bay St. Louis, MS had shown interest very early on, but had to rescind after they found out one of the couple had to have hip surgery. When they checked back in with us this past February, she had completed her surgery and was almost fully rehabbed back (uses a walker for safety) and they really wanted the dogs. Our foster mom drove the dogs almost 10 hours to do the home check and drop them off. On recent communication with Rosie and John, we found out the dogs have been to the vet and the vet was just blown away with how gorgeous they are (they are blue eyed beauties). Yoda loves the little ponds on the property! They have learned so many commands and keep a rigid schedule of food, outdoor time and then guarding their people in the doorways at night!

Molly is a 2 year old female partially blind (sees shadows we believe) female spayed sheepdog. She is located in foster care in Atlanta. She has tested Heartworm + and will be treated for this while in foster care or continued care in her new home (rescue will pay for it until she has a negative reading). Molly loves playing with a ball and comes to her name. She has endured most of her life outside and is learning to become an inside dog. She is good with dogs and lived part of her life outside with a pig. Molly is lucky her previous owners found her. She was one day away from being killed by her first owners. Unfortunately her new owners both lost their jobs with the forestry commission and have to move back to Colorado.
